Sea Turtle Release In Riviera Nayarit - Protection Programs

Sea turtle release in Riviera Nayarit helps many on the endangered species list. Out of the seven species of sea turtles in the world, six of them arrive in Mexico each year between June and November to nest and lay their eggs.

Olive Ridley Sea Turtles

Thousands of female Olive Ridley sea turtles that were born on our Nayarit Pacific coast beaches return every year. They come to build nests and lay their eggs in the exact same location where they were born, perpetuating their cycle of life.

A single sea turtle nest may contain as many as 200 new hatchlings. They face the threat from man and the “black market” for sea turtles and sea turtle eggs. Another major challenge for new turtle hatchlings is the short but dangerous journey they must take from sandy beach to the sea as they try to avoid predatory birds and iguanas.

Baby Sea Turtle Release Programs

In recent years in Nayarit, baby sea turtle release has become a major tourist attraction.

Mexico government agencies and marine biologists have created a number of turtle protection programs with turtle farms dedicated to the harvesting, hatching, and releasing of baby sea turtles back into the ocean.

Programs for sea turtle release in Riviera Nayarit have become fascinating eco-adventure attractions. They delight Nayarit visitors with an interactive, educational, and emotional experience that also dramatically increases the survival rate of new turtle hatchlings.

Crocodile & Sea Turtle Adventures

Riviera Nayarit has several sea turtle adventure excursions and baby sea turtle release programs available. One program combines a crocodile adventure that pays a visit to “El Quelele,” a marshy lagoon where American Crocodiles exist in a safe, protected environment.
