Punta de Mita - Mexico's Riviera Nayarit
Upon setting foot in Punta de Mita, as you stand in the white sands of this peninsula and look out over the immense ocean, you will be overcome with tranquility.
You will leave the world behind, as if you were alone on a desert island, sheltered in a hidden refuge. And this is exactly what Punta de Mita is: an exclusive and luxurious getaway that rises from the peninsula that includes almost 10 kilometers (six miles) of virgin beaches, surrounded by green hills.
Here, the Pacific Ocean opens before those visitors who never seem to tire of admiring the endless turquoise-blue depths of the sea.
In this land, originally home to artisans, merchants and fishermen, one of the most sophisticated and select destinations of the Riviera Nayarit has been developed.
Along the shores of the Coral del Rusco and El Anclote beaches, which stretch for 500 meters (1,640 feet), luxurious hotels and resorts have been constructed, which offer all of the essential amenities to please even the most demanding of travelers.
Imagine taking in the open ocean as you read a satisfying book, walking through the resort grounds seemingly surrounded by Babylonian gardens, or pampering your palate as you are mesmerized by the sun’s descent below the horizon. And of course, in this exclusive Paradise, golf —another gem of Punta de Mita— is a must.
Here, in 1999, the renamed Punta Mita Paciífico course was inaugurated. This par-72 course is famous for its 3b-style hole —the only one in the world— known as the “whale’s tale” as it is located on a natural island 199 yards from the tee and along the beach.
This emblematic course, designed by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus, is joined by another worthy course, the Punta Mita Bahía, which promises to delight even the most experienced players from around the world.
“You couldn’t ask for more beautiful scenery for a golf course than Punta de Mita,” comments Nicklaus in regards to this second par-72 course that is a true challenge for golfers with its 18 holes distributed across hilly terrain with Miniverde greens and Bermuda fairways surrounded by exotic gardens.
The course includes five parthrees, eight par-fours and five par-fives and the green has a peculiar slope with a deep bunker on the left side.
This destination offers you a unique golfing experience with fantastic views of the Pacific. It is no wonder that Punta de Mita has earned recognition as one of the most important golfing resorts in the world.
Dressing rooms, golf shops, a restaurant, bar, practice area and classes with golfing professionals are other services offered for players and visitors.
Both courses are part of the Punta Mita Club de Golf, meaning admittance is exclusively for residents of the subdivision or guests staying at the Four Seasons Punta Mita Resorts and St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.
And to round out your adventure you can visit some of the boutiques or exclusive restaurants of the area serving delicious gourmet delicacies, treat yourself to a spa treatment or let loose in any one of the nightlife hotspots.
Let yourself be swept away by the fine sands, whimsical rock formations, and fresh air of Punta de Mita. You will return home with an allover sense of rest and regeneration. You will not be disappointed.
